In April 1790, two hundred and twenty nine years ago, President George Washington set out to tour the new nation. He spent five days on Long Island, an area that was recovering from seven years of British occupation, and traveled from Brooklyn to Setauket and back. He wrote extensive diary entries about his travels and overnight stays at local taverns and homes. Dr. Joanne S. Grasso, Adjunct Associate Professor of History & Political Science from NYIT, traces this momentous journey. She also holds an interdisciplinary Doctor of Arts Degree in Modern World History. Registration required. Open to all.
