Happy New Year!

As we begin 2019, it is very satisfying to look back and see all that we have accomplished in the past year. The HVAC and lighting project at our Main Street location is complete, along with our new adult reference desk, computer area and magazine room, including a cozy fireplace! We are also very excited about the second floor of the Station Branch. The community’s use of our library, along with our own demand for program space, is always increasing. Because of this, we strive to make whatever improvements we can to enhance our buildings. I thank you all for your continued patience during our ongoing construction.

I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of our Friends of the Library and the Huntington Library Foundation. These two groups of community volunteers dedicate their time and service to helping the library fulfill its mission of serving the needs and interests of the community. They do this by raising money to support new and innovative programs, as well as helping to sustain ongoing services. We are very appreciative for their help and generous donations to the library. As we begin this new year, we will continue to make our library a warm and inviting place for our patrons.

If I can be of help to you in any way, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at 631-427-5165, ext. 206 or by email: . I wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year!

Join our Second Annual Winter Reading Challenge!

Second Annual Winter Reading Challenge!

This year, our library is participating in joining other libraries nationwide. We challenge families to read at least 10,000 minutes during the month of January and track those minutes on https://myhpl.beanstack.com. Libraries will encourage their communities to read at least 10 minutes a day to help us meet our goal of 10,000 minutes for the month of January. Mark Cuban will donate $35,000 to top participating libraries if all participating libraries reach a designated collective goal.

  • Read 60 minutes per week for a chance to spin our new prize wheel, one spin per week per child.
  • If we reach our goal, we will celebrate with an Ice Cream Party on Saturday, February 9 at 2 pm.
  • Registration is ongoing at https://myhpl.beanstack.com

Holiday Greetings!

New York State Education Department recently awarded the Huntington Public Library $77,500 in construction aid for our recent HVAC and LED lighting project. We also received another $20,000 in New York State Bullet Aid which we plan to use toward new technology for the library. We thank Supervisor Chad Lupinacci, Assemblyman Steve Stern and Senator Carl Marcellino for all they did to help us secure these grants and for keeping this aid in the New York State budget for libraries.

The next project at our Main location will be the magazine room. We ask for your patience while we renovate this area and temporarily relocate the magazines and new books. We are working towards making this a more comfortable and inviting area.

We're also continuing to update the Station Branch as we make good use of the second floor and reconfigure some areas on the first floor.

Our newly formed Foundation is having a reception to showcase some of the projects they have funded for the library. This is an open invitation to all who are interested in seeing what has been done and hearing more about the Foundation. See information on this page for details - all are welcome to join us!

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and a Happy Holiday Season!
