There will be tables and carts overflowing with hardcover and paperback books of all genres including books for children and young adults, books on CD, music CDs, and movies in DVD and Blu-ray formats. Drawing for our wildly popular raffle of donations from local businesses and restaurants will be at 4:30 pm Sunday. You do not need to be present to win. All proceeds from this sale will be used to support various programs and services of the Huntington Public Library.

Volunteers needed! If you are interested in helping to set up Wednesday, September 6, working during the sale, or helping to box up “leftovers” after the event on Monday, September 11, please email: or call Kathy Morgan at (631) 673-0134. If you wish to donate books/music/movies, please make sure items are in CLEAN, UNDAMAGED condition. If you have a folding table we can borrow, please contact Kathy.

Foundation Update

hlf logo5The newly formed Huntington Library Foundation, Inc. recently awarded its first round of small grants to the library. The Station Branch will soon be offering Super Teen programs on the Smart TV that’s been installed in the Community Room. Children in Youth & Parent Services will learn programming with Dot and Dash, the new robots that just arrived. You’ll also be seeing some digital picture frames around the library advertising our programs and services, thanks to the grant for the Adult Department. We are very excited to be able to offer these new programs and are thankful to the Foundation for supporting our efforts. We look forward to what the next round of small grants will bring!

"Fall" into Reading!

joanne adamHello to all! This summer we had over 500 children, teens and adults Build a Better World with our summer reading clubs! A lot of exciting programs and good deeds added to this experience. Along this same theme, we are participating in the first annual Great Give Back, a county-wide event for everyone to give back to your community! Please see the above article box on this page for details. I was also pleased to see many patrons enjoying the library this summer during our open Sunday hours at our Main Street location.

Thank you to all who generously donated school supplies to the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless. You helped ease the back-to-school worries of many children and parents.


I’m happy to announce we have awarded contracts to Roland’s Electric, Inc. and JNS Heating Service, Inc. for work at our Main Street location. Please see Library News on this page for more building upgrade information. We will try very hard to have minimal impact on day to day operations while undergoing construction.

We have recently renovated our Local History Room and I invite you to join us at an open house on October 25th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

With September being Library Card Signup Month, I’d like to encourage anyone who doesn’t have a library card to stop in and get one. I wish you all a Happy Autumn and hope you “fall” into a good book this season!
