Our Parents Become Every Child's ResponsibilityOur services for seniors strive to meet the needs and interests of the community’s Senior Citizens, honoring their experience, and gratefully acknowledging the valuable contributions they continue to make. The department focuses on programs, services and information related to health and renewal, cultural arts and entertainment, lifestyle and financial matters. A sampling of our Senior programs is provided below. Please check the current newsletter for times and dates.


AARP Mature Driving
AARP instructors offer an 8 hour defensive driving class to drivers 50 years or older. The class is one full day or two half day sessions and geared to the older driver. Upon completion you may receive a reduction in automobile insurance. The fee is discounted for AARP members. This class is limited to Huntington Public Library cardholders. Check the Program Calendar to register.

HIICAP
Meet individually with a Suffolk County RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) volunteer from HIICAP (Health Insurance Information, Counseling & Assistance Program) to answer questions and provide information specific to your own needs regarding Medicare health insurance and benefits, Medicare Savings Programs and EPIC. This free program does not require registration and is open to all on a first come, first served basis.

Homebound Services
If you or someone you know is unable to visit the library, a librarian will bring the library to you, including large print or regular print books, movies, etc. You may request specific titles or have the librarian suggest some. Homebound patrons may also access HPL's Downloadable Collection (audiobooks, ebooks and videos) from the convenience of a home computer. Music and Memories
HPL participates in the nationwide Music and Memory program which provides personalized music therapy for community members living with Alzheimer’s disease and other debilitating disorders. To learn more, call Therese Nielsen at (631) 427-5165 ext. 250 or email .

Senior Advocate
A Senior Advocate from the Suffolk County Office of the Aging is at the Library the third Monday every other month to assist seniors with complicated forms and answers questions regarding county programs and services for seniors. Meet with the Advocate to discuss yourself or your loved ones. This free program does not require registration and is open to all.


Note:  Homebound Delivery Services are available to any library patron in need regardless of age.
